1999 was a cooler vintage for Napa, and congruent with that, I found this Bordeaux blend to be in line more with what I expect from a French Bordeaux. After four hours however, the elements came further most harmoniously.
When I initially opened this bottle, the wine presented on the palate as disjointed, and I had feared it was past its prime. Smooth focused mouthfeel, with medium+ to long finish. Tannins are fine and well integrated, and acidity is balanced well with the fruit. On the tongue ripe raspberry alongside cassis, tart cherries, white peppercorns, and crushed violets. Also present are juicy dark fruits, crushed stone and delicate floral notes. On the nose some alcohol is still present, though blowing off over the course of decanting. In the glass this wine is a medium+ intensity ruby.
